The loops between Cumberland and West Courtenay run 5 to 26 km on historic colliery rail trails and forest singletrack, past Comox Lake and salmon-bearing rivers. Cumberland's coal-mining past shows everywhere, and its present, cafes, breweries, and one of the island's great trail networks, makes the town the natural hub. Hillier than the valley floor rides nearby.
