Hatley Castle is a grand Edwardian stone castle built for coal baron James Dunsmuir, now the centrepiece of Royal Roads University's Hatley Park — a National Historic Site spanning 260 hectares of oceanfront parkland on southern Vancouver Island. The estate offers self-guided wandering through Italian, Japanese, and rose gardens, old-growth forest hikes, biking trails, and sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Guided tours of the castle's interior run seasonally, and the on-site Habitat Café provides a welcome rest stop.
