Yama Cafe is a homestyle Japanese cafe in East Vancouver opened in 2017 by Tokyo-born chef Mitsuhiro Yamamura, whose cooking philosophy centres on Washoku — a UNESCO-recognized approach to Japanese food that prizes seasonal ingredients and respectful technique. The cafe serves rice bowls, Japanese baked goods (called 'moffins'), custom cakes, and an Omakase bento and dinner course under the Special menu. A touring cyclist will find a calm, neighbourhood atmosphere with several gluten-free and vegan menu options alongside alternative milks.
