Mamalee is a beloved Malaysian restaurant on West Broadway founded by Betty Lee, a Kuala Lumpur-born cook who overcame serious hardship — including a partially paralyzing car accident — to bring authentic Malaysian flavours to Vancouver in the early 1990s. The menu centres on Hainanese chicken rice, laksa noodle soup, roti canai, and curry beef brisket, all prepared with meticulous technique. The Broadway location is the original main store; a second outpost in Chinatown has since extended the family's reach across the city.
