W̱MÍYEŦEN Nature Sanctuary
W̱MÍYEŦEN Nature Sanctuary is a 42-acre protected forest and riparian area in the Highlands District, about 25 km from downtown Victoria, formerly known as Mary Lake Nature Sanctuary. The property encompasses 10 different ecosystems, a 7-acre lake, the Nature Kinship House perched on the water's edge, and streamside trails through old-growth Coastal Douglas Fir forest. It is operated by a non-profit society in alliance with the W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) Coast Salish Peoples and focuses on conservation, ecological research, and reconciliation.
This place is in the traditional territory of the Á,LEṈENEȻ ȽTE (W̱SÁNEĆ), MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat), Te’mexw Treaty Association, and Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla.
