Tutshi Lake/T'ooch' Áayi Conservancy

Tutshi Lake/T'ooch' Áayi Conservancy protects the eastern half of Tutshi Lake, a culturally significant body of water whose Tlingit name means 'charcoal lake', referencing its distinctively dark water. Established through the Wóoshtin Wudidaa Atlin Taku Land Use Plan and a Taku River Tlingit First Nation Strategic Engagement Agreement, the conservancy sits roughly 65 kilometres northwest of Atlin in a remote corner of northwest BC. The lake supports high-value lake trout habitat and represents a rare example of co-governed protected land in the region.
