Castle Grove
Castle Grove in the Central Walbran Valley is described by the Ancient Forest Alliance as perhaps the most impressive stand of unprotected monumental ancient redcedars in Canada, including the 'Castle Giant,' a western redcedar with a 5-metre diameter. The grove supports diverse wildlife including marbled murrelets, cougars, and black bears, while steelhead and coho salmon spawn in the Walbran River below. It is a remote wilderness area that has been the subject of conservation campaigns to prevent logging.
