Canso Bomber Crash Site

Info · Activity / Experience · Esowista (Vancouver Island) · Free

The Canso Bomber Crash Site preserves the remarkably intact wreckage of RCAF Canso 11007, a WWII-era flying boat that crashed on a hillside shortly after takeoff on February 12, 1945. The 5km return trail from Radar Hill passes through a notoriously muddy bog, a creepy abandoned wartime building, and a bomb-crater pond before reaching the fuselage, which visitors can climb into and inspect. It is one of the most unusual and historically evocative hikes on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
