Doctor Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden
The first full-scale traditional Ming Dynasty classical Chinese garden built outside of China, opened in 1986 in the heart of Vancouver's Chinatown. Named World's Top City Garden by National Geographic in 2011 and Canadian Garden of the Year in 2012, it was born from the community effort that defeated a proposed freeway through Chinatown and redirected Vancouver toward walking, cycling, and transit-oriented planning. Touring cyclists will find a tranquil cultural oasis steps from major urban cycling routes, offering guided garden and Chinatown walking tours, tea ceremonies, exhibitions, and a gift shop.
