Thornton Creek Enhancement Society
Thornton Creek Enhancement Society is a non-profit salmon hatchery near Ucluelet dedicated to sustaining Chinook, Coho, and Chum salmon populations in Barkley and Clayoquot Sounds, operating since 1981 within the traditional territories of the Toquaht, Ucluth Aht, and Tla-o-qui-aht Nations. During the fall salmon run the hatchery becomes a popular destination, offering educational tours by donation where visitors can observe the salmon lifecycle up close. It also runs school programs and snorkel surveys, making it one of the more ecologically engaged visitor experiences on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
