Alaksen National Wildlife Area

Alaksen National Wildlife Area is a federally managed 349-hectare nature reserve on the Fraser River Delta, established in 1976 across four former deltaic islands joined by causeways and dykes. It sits within a globally significant Important Bird Area and Ramsar Site, attracting up to 1.4 million migratory birds annually from Siberia to South America — including spectacular concentrations of snow geese exceeding 25,000 birds. For a touring cyclist, it offers a rare and peaceful wildlife experience on the flat, dyke-laced landscape of the Fraser Delta just south of Vancouver.
