Cathedral Grove
Cathedral Grove, within MacMillan Park, is one of Vancouver Island's most iconic natural sites — a stand of ancient Douglas fir trees up to 800 years old and over 9 metres in circumference, preserved as an old-growth provincial park. The park straddles Highway 4 between Parksville and Port Alberni, with trail networks on both sides of the road threading through towering coastal forest. A severe 1997 windstorm reshaped parts of the park, and ongoing natural regeneration makes each visit distinctive.
