Zuckerberg Island

Info · Museum / Gallery · Crescent Valley (Kootenay Rockies) · Free

Zuckerberg Island is an 8-hectare outdoor heritage park on an island in the Columbia River at Castlegar, reached via a 473-foot suspension bridge built by the 44th Field Engineer Squadron in 1984. The park centres on a unique Russian Orthodox-style Chapel House built by Alexander Zuckerberg, an Estonian civil engineer and self-taught sculptor who settled here decades ago. Woodland paths, picnic tables, carved sculptures, and a layered Indigenous and European history make it a compelling stop in the Columbia River Valley.
