Sproat Lake Petroglyphs
The Sproat Lake Petroglyphs, known by the Nuu-chah-nulth name K'ak'awin, are an archaeological site within Sproat Lake Provincial Park on central Vancouver Island and are considered one of the finest panels of prehistoric rock carvings in British Columbia. Cyclists can reach the carvings via a 0.5 km trail from the main parking lot, ending at a small pier at the east end of the park where the ancient carvings are viewable at the lake's edge. The surrounding provincial park on the north shore of Sproat Lake, reached via Highway 4 about 13 km northwest of Port Alberni, also offers swimming, canoeing, and fishing.
