House of Huu-ay-aht
The House of Huu-ay-aht is a striking community hall of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations, located in the community of Anacla near Pachena Bay on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Opened in 2000 with a traditional ceremony welcoming over 1,000 guests, it was constructed beneath four massive 30-ton spruce logs supporting two dozen smaller roof logs in a form deeply rooted in Nuu-chah-nulth architecture. It sits in the Barkley Sound region near the southern trailhead of the West Coast Trail, an area popular with adventure cyclists exploring Vancouver Island's remote west coast.
