Gitwangak Battle Hill National Historic Site
Gitwangak Battle Hill National Historic Site (formerly Kitwanga Fort) sits atop a high grassy knoll overlooking the scenic Kitwanga River valley, marking the site of a fortified Gitxsan village actively defended in the mid-1700s to 1800s. The adjacent Gitwangak Village is home to the oldest surviving collection of totem poles in British Columbia. The site is managed in partnership with the Simgiget'm Gitwangak Society (hereditary leaders) and is open year-round for self-guided exploration.
