Walcott Quarry
Walcott Quarry is the original excavation site of the Burgess Shale, one of the world's most celebrated paleontological discoveries and a UNESCO World Heritage Site within Yoho National Park. The quarry preserves extraordinarily detailed half-billion-year-old marine fossils and is accessible only via strenuous guided hikes offered by Parks Canada. Touring cyclists based in the Field, BC area can book a guided day-hike to the quarry as a once-in-a-lifetime side trip from the Kicking Horse corridor.
