Ronning's Garden

Info · Park / Nature · Elephant Crossing (Vancouver Island) · Free

Ronning's Garden is a heritage garden carved from BC's northern rainforest by Norwegian homesteader Bernt Ronning, who established his homestead here in 1910 near the terminus of the old San Josef Wagon Road and filled it with exotic plants ordered from around the world. The garden is renowned for hosting one of the oldest and largest Monkey Puzzle trees in British Columbia. Maintained today by a small group of volunteers and free to enter, it is a remarkable off-the-beaten-path destination for cyclists exploring the Cape Scott region of Vancouver Island North, reached by a ten-minute walk along a restored section of the historic wagon road.
