Bear Island Conservancy is a 317-hectare BC Parks protected area on the shores of Babine Lake, about 60 km east of Smithers, encompassing approximately 4 km of lakeshore and two islands. Established in 2008, it incorporates a former Forest Service recreation site that continues to operate as a vehicle-accessible campground especially popular during the August Sockeye salmon fishery. Visiting cyclists should be aware that the access road is a steep gravel descent and no potable water is available on site.
