Blackburn Lake Nature Reserve is an 18.4-hectare protected area managed by the Salt Spring Island Conservancy, surrounding about two-thirds of Blackburn Lake at the geographic centre of Salt Spring Island. The reserve features mowed public walking trails through meadows, wetlands, and forest edges, and is home to over 100 bird species and 21 Species at Risk, including Great Blue Herons, Peregrine Falcons, and Northern Red-legged Frogs. Cyclists exploring Salt Spring Island can lock up and walk the trails, though dogs are strictly prohibited to protect the sensitive wildlife habitat.
