North Island Wildlife Recovery & Educational Centre
Founded in 1985, the North Island Wildlife Recovery Association (NIWRA) is a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education centre set on 8 acres in Errington, just minutes from Parksville. The facility houses over 60 resident non-releasable animals — including eagles, black bears, owls, and turkey vultures — and is home to what it describes as the largest eagle flight enclosure of its kind in Canada. Visitors follow a self-guided tour through graveled, wheelchair-accessible paths, with picnic areas, a wildlife garden featuring a mini-wetland, and an on-site gift shop.
