Free Store
The Free Store is a thriving community institution run entirely by volunteers as part of the Hornby Island Recycling Depot, one of BC's pioneering recycling programs dating to 1978. Visiting cyclists can browse a constantly rotating selection of donated clothing, books, furniture, kitchen equipment, toys, and gardening tools — all free for the taking. The building's south-facing roof even hosts a demonstration grid-tied solar panel project, making it a small showcase for island sustainability.
