Cathedral Grove

Info · Activity / Experience · Arrowsmith (Vancouver Island) · Free

Cathedral Grove, within MacMillan Park, is one of Vancouver Island's most celebrated natural landmarks: a roadside stand of ancient Douglas fir trees up to 800 years old and more than 9 metres in circumference, straddling Highway 4 between Qualicum Beach and Port Alberni. Touring cyclists heading to or from Tofino pass directly through the park and can walk the network of old-growth trails on both sides of the highway. A severe 1997 windstorm reshaped parts of the forest, adding ecological interest to an already dramatic landscape.
