VIRL: Bella Coola Branch

Info · Library · Bella Coola (Cariboo Chilcotin Coast) · Free

The Bella Coola Branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library is a small but long-established public library serving a remote community at the end of Highway 20, the legendary Freedom Highway through BC's Coast Mountains. Originally opened in 1981 with just 4,000 books in a tiny room, it has grown into a community hub now housed in the local Co-op building on the territory of the Nuxalk Nation. For touring cyclists completing the dramatic climb or descent into the Bella Coola Valley, this library represents one of few public indoor spaces in the community.
