Howard Horel Nature Reserve
Howard Horel Nature Reserve is a 25-hectare protected area on Salt Spring Island within the globally rare Coastal Douglas-fir zone, featuring forested terrain, rocky bluffs, Garry oak, small wetlands, and streams flowing into upper Fulford Creek. The reserve harbours seven Species at Risk and was acquired in 2018 through an anonymous donation honouring a long-time Salt Spring family. Touring cyclists can access the reserve's easy trail network via Bryant Hill Park, reached from the end of Mereside Road or Sarah Way.
